Which radio is in your Audi | Eye4Audio explains

Wondering which radio is in your Audi? Or do you want to know which system you have before choosing to upgrade with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto? In this article, we explain clearly and concisely how to recognize the audio system in your Audi, and what the options are for replacement or expansion.

🔍 Quick answer: which radio is in my Audi?

The radio or head unit in your Audi depends on the year of construction, model and equipment level. There are roughly three main types:

  1. Audi Chorus / Concert / Symphony (older models up to ±2012)
  2. MMI 2G / 3G / 3G+ (mainly between 2004 and 2016)
  3. MMI Navigation Plus / MIB / MIB2 (from ±2013 to now)

Does the startup screen say MMI? Then you have an MMI system. Do you see only CD, FM and AUX without navigation? Then you probably have a Chorus or Concert radio.

🎯 How do you recognize your system in the Audi?

1. Audi Chorus / Concert / Symphony

  • Mostly black and white display
  • Buttons directly around the screen
  • No navigation (except Symphony + Bose sometimes)
  • No touch, limited expandability

2. MMI 2G / 3G / 3G+

  • Large color screen (usually on top of dashboard)
  • Operation via rotary knob at gearshift
  • Navigation built into higher versions
  • CD/DVD charger in dashboard or trunk

3. MMI Navigation Plus (MIB/MIB2)

  • Large screens (6.5 to 10.1 inches)
  • Touchscreen in later models
  • USB and SD inputs, Bluetooth Audio, sometimes CarPlay
  • Audi smartphone interface on newer models

📸 Tip: send us a picture of your dashboard and boot screen. Then we will immediately tell which system you have.

🛠 Can I replace my Audi radio?

Yes, almost always. Even with systems that seem "not replaceable," there are solutions. We rebuild Audi systems every day with:

  • Apple CarPlay & Android Auto (wired or wireless)
  • OEM-style screens that fit seamlessly
  • Additional features such as DAB+, camera and DSP

Sometimes the original radio is replaced, sometimes we put an interface on top of the existing system.

🤔 Why upgrade?

Many original Audi radio systems offer:

  • No CarPlay or Android Auto
  • Outdated navigation without online updates
  • No Bluetooth Audio
  • Slow menu structure and limited features

With a new radio or interface, you upgrade to modern features all at once without sacrificing appearance.
